Quietly nestled in one of New York City’s most affluent neighborhoods, Vincent & Edgar (also known as Vincent & Edgar Custom Shoes Remodeling and Repair) has been remodeling and creating shoes for over 20 years. It is in this shop all of the magic happens.
I stopped by to see if my Gucci leather and Lucite shoes could be restored. The strap originally made from plastic had torn rendering the shoes unwearable. Roman took a look at my damaged shoes and told me that he would be able to repair them. As he continued to examine strap of the shoes, I noticed other peoples imperfect shoes were lined up by the wall, waiting to be transformed; while others were halfway through their transformation. Behind the front counter was a shelf lined with Chanel, and Hermes bags waiting to be restored to their former glory. My admiration for the level of skill and craftsmanship that laid before me was cut short when I heard “the cost to repair the straps will be $150.” I asked when I can expect the shoes to be ready, and he replied “in two weeks.”
Two weeks and $150 later, I came in to pick up my ‘Vincent-ized’ shoes. The straps were replaced with a matching sleek leather ankle strap that can be looped around my ankles twice. They were very sexy and I was very pleased (before and after picture below).
Truth be told, you will spend a pretty penny, but every dollar spent will be worth it. After all you get what you pay for.
